Barcelona-Linked Defensive Midfield Prodigy Prefers to Stay in South America

FC Barcelona are no stranger when it comes to unearthing talents from the South American market. However, in recent years, the club have lost out on the pursuit of several talented players including Endrick, Julian Alvarez, and Enzo Fernandez.

This has led to an increased emphasis on the South American market, with the club notably prioritising a move for Brazilian whizkid Vitor Roque.

In a similar move, Barcelona are also interested in the services of Fabricio Diaz, reports SPORT.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Diaz has been a consistent performer for Liverpool Montevideo in his native Uruguay, racking up over 100 competitive appearances at the age of just 20.

Diaz’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with a host of South American clubs reaching out to him for his services. Barcelona are no exception either, as the club’s scouts have delivered positive reports on the player.

Flamengo, in particular, have shown a lot of desire to sign Diaz at the end of the season. They are, in fact, in a pole position to sign the youngster, who has been valued at around €6 million by Liverpool Montevideo.

The report suggests Fabricio Diaz prefers to remain in South America for at least one more season before venturing out elsewhere. It appears the youngster wants to gain more experience in the continent, in order to further improve himself as a player.

This could be a potential blow for Barcelona given the fact that Diaz’s valuation may increase if the defensive midfielder continues his rapid progress in South America.

The player himself is keen on raising his price before he ventures out into Europe, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young Uruguayan.
